Resurrection is the morning routine for the disturbed when they’re in love. I don’t remember how, but you were lifeless and laid flat like a cookie on a pile of coats and dressed with no dignity, to be buried that way. And I was clawing the air in prayer it was not true. [...]

As for the rest
of us, we crowd
them like stratus clouds.
So they have gone to a private
room behind a door to string
words like gorgeous beads that we
are not invited
to wear or even touch.
They breathe in the water and their laughter
foams on the surface. I trail
a jealous finger, dip an intrusive
foot, wanting to dive, drink,
or drown.

I am a flower sealed in amber
Away from all men’s fingers. But you are a tree
Enjoyed by many hugging vines.
I tremble for you, for the reaper comes
To reap twisters and twiners like you.
So I kick up my mad magic maiden dust
To make my wild womb yours.

Her silver-plated Size 5 rings slide around her knuckles.
Her toe-rings always fall upside-down.
She wears a wrinkled, bright-colored floral dress
that clashes with her gawk at the floor
and her dirty fleece jacket
all clung with lint and hair, most of it hers,
long and matted like a haystack.
Her earrings have a Type A personality
that pulls her Type B head [...]

When corralled into that horrible humming room that smells like farting kids – that tall, walled humiliatorium with scuffy glossy gritty floors that sting my legs when I kneel, sticky white painted walls like I saw when I toured a jail, yellow florescent lights I could swear are flickering because everyone’s nerves are flickering, too [...]

The bird says, “Wait and see.”
Today a new voice vibrates,
just a clumsy flightless fledgling.
This shaking voice,
soon to shake the universe
out of its cubicles and cells,
curls in the beauty of a seed
sown among the crowd
in someone else’s field.
This voice cracks
while its tall true self
cracks its little lying shell.
While singers flaunt their full-grown breakable sermons,
it trembles as [...]
